Not Resolutions... Aspirations!

January 05, 2009

As a parent, the New Year brings both optimism and challenges. I have found myself thinking long and hard about what I want to do differently as a mom, and what I did right over the course of the last year.

One of the things I'm the most proud of, and is pertinent to this site, is the fact that we are not a stay-at-home family. We are out and about on a near daily basis, enjoying the amazing things that this city offers to parents and toddlers. We've hit nearly every site available since it turned cold, and have multiple site memberships.

My only beef about things for toddlers is not being able to find much to do during that post-nap-to-dinner time period. My daughter is super active, and I really need more than one daily activity to keep her happy and tantrum free. Although it's not really possible for her to be completely tantrum free; she is two and a half. Heh.

With this in mind, I am happy to report that the Society Hill Dance Academy is now offering an awesome open play period at their studios on the second Sunday of every month. For kids six months to seven years old, for $10, kids can run rampant from 2-5pm (admission includes snacks, and discounted parking is available nearby). Their studio is located at 409 S. 2nd Street. More info available at their website.

So if one of your parenting resolutions is to get out and about, this is a great place to start! Maybe if it's a big success they'll offer it more frequently. Lord knows there is just not enough for a kid to do in the late afternoon!
