Library Etiquette
November 26, 2008
So, now that my daughter is two and a half we are starting to actually use the library for more than just story times. Lately we've been checking out a book at each visit, just for her, as well as using another awesome library resource--checking out DVDs.
But I find that I watch her like a hawk with her library books, worried that she'll draw on them or damage them by tossing them down the stairs or WORST OF ALL rip out a page--horror!
Of course, she's been fine with them, as long as one of her parents sit with her while she reads the book and supervise. She just borrowed a very cute book with ten butterlies that she loved to count over and over (no, I can't remember the title, and therefore cannot find a link).
As far as the DVDs go, the biggest trick is remembering to return them on time. They aren't free, but the rental fee at my local library is well worth it ($1.50 a DVD, and on Tuesdays you can get two for the price of one) and it helps expand our car DVD collection temporarily (we often have long drives in the car, and our lives are SAVED by the car's DVD player).
What do you think is the best library etiquette? Is it OK for little kids to check out books? How do you teach good library manners? I'd love to hear your opinions!
